Boston Dynamics

Boston Dynamics builds advanced mobile robots with the mobility, dexterity, and intelligence to do useful work in the real world. Spot, their four-legged robot, is designed to navigate environments too dangerous for humans: construction sites, disaster zones, hazardous inspections.
As Spot's commercial release approached, Boston Dynamics needed a user guide to onboard new operators on handling, setup, safety, and autonomous operation. Because they didn't have a brand system beyond a logo, part of the work was establishing a visual language for the product. I explored a more playful direction that leaned into robot-dog associations, but we landed on a serious, restrained system to reflect how Spot was being positioned for law enforcement, firefighting, and hazardous inspection. As project lead, I owned layout and art direction, working with an Accenture illustrator and copywriter to produce a 40-page guide built around a navy and cyan palette, blueprint-style schematics, and a custom icon system.
